Career Conversations: A Pride Month Celebration

Tuesday, June 11th 2024 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Evolve Collaborative

Join Oregon MESA at Evolve Collaborative for our next in-person Career Conversations event! Hosted by Jia Lu Ni, Associate Creative Director at Evolve, this event will feature a panel of three LGBTQIA2S+ folks in design, film, journalism, and science disciplines, who will come together to share a bit about their career journey. Light refreshments and food will be provided, and the event is open to all MESA community members! Register now and share the link with your network!

MESA Day 2024

Friday, May 17th 2024 from 8:00am - 4:00pm at Portland State Univeristy

On May 17th we hosted MESA Day 2024 at Portland State University. Over three hundred students, teachers, volunteers, and community members gathered at the Viking Pavilion to celebrate the culmination of the MESA year. From the student invention showcase to the riveting competitions, and the college & career fair in the afternoon, MESA Day 2024 was a success! Read a recap of the event here. 

MESA Talks: Non-Traditional College Paths

Monday, April 1th 2024 from 5:30pm - 7:00pm virtually on Zoom.

The event will highlighted how education is not a linear journey and centered the experiences of older students, students who are parents, students who are first-generation, BIPOC, low-income, or Dreamers. Featured speakers were be Zoe Erickson, Raul Preciado Mendez, and Jess Schantz. Link to the recording coming soon!

Career Conversations: Black Futures

Thursday, February 1st 2024 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Genentech

We kicked off Black History Month on February 1st with our Career Conversations: Black Futures event! We met in person at Genentech to hear a panel of three amazing Black professionals in STEAM, who shared their perspectives on the impact of mentorship and representation on the course of a person’s career. The event featured a Q&A session and was facilitated by MESA's very own Jonas Hudnall, our new Education Coordinator. Read a recap of the event here.

 

College Exploration Day

Saturday, December 2nd 2023 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at PSU Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science

Oregon MESA, UPLIFT Leadership, The College Place & Maseeh Ambassadors  hosted a day of College Exploration! The event featured two info sessions in the morning, followed by lunch and refreshments, and culminating with a tour of the College. Students and family attendees got to explore some of the labs, classrooms and different engineering tracks and hear directly from current college students on their experience.

 

Career Conversation: Hispanic Heritage Celebration

Wednesday, October 11th 2023 at 5:00pm at Alder Creek Middle School Auditorium

We hosted our first Career Conversations event of the year! During the event we highlighted Latina/o/e & Hispanic Heritage Month with a career talk from two professionals working in STEM fields who come from Latin American/Chicanx backgrounds. The event was open to MESA advisors, students, and their families and was entirely in Spanish. The Career Conversation was held in person at the Auditorium in Alder Creek Middle School. Food, cake and beverages were provided.

 

All Partners Meeting

Tuesday, September 19th 2023 at 5:30pm on Zoom

We kicked off the MESA year with our all partners meeting!  Attendees learned all about upcoming opportunities to get involved with us and make a difference for our students. Watch the recording of the meeting to learn more!
